West Hollywood gays are very familiar with David Cooley, founder of WeHo's popular Abbey and the man who established the "Best Gay Bar in the World" from a small coffeehouse. Word came down today that Cooley has been hard at work to bring yet another nightlife venue to the masses of Boystown.
According to a press release received this afternoon, Cooley has taken over 10,000 square feet of retail space at 8936 Santa Monica Boulevard to develop a new restaurant and bar concept.
"Cooley is working with his management team at The Abbey to develop a restaurant and bar, designed to compliment The Abbey, making use of indoor and outdoor space facing both the world-famous Santa Monica Boulevard and the recently re-developed West Hollywood Park," says the release. "The new space will integrate a 3,000-square-foot patio overlooking Santa Monica Boulevard and a large terrace overlooking the West Hollywood Park."
“I’ve been looking for ways to expand on The Abbey’s success for a long time. Opportunities on Santa Monica Boulevard like this do not come along very often,” said Cooley. “With this project, we’ll use nearly 25 years of experience from The Abbey serving the West Hollywood community and add something new and exciting to the heart of Boystown.”
Cooley will announce specific plans for the project in the coming months. Meanwhile, residents and visitors of the popular West Hollywood nightlife scene wait with bated breath for more details on what's sure to be a new WeHo hot spot.
