Do you know Mark S. King? If you don’t then you simply must get to know him. Mark is a video blogger, columnist and advocate who lives fabulously with HIV. His blog is appropriately titled, “My Fabulous Disease,” and he is one of a handful of people covering life with HIV and he does it with great humor and charm. I hope you’ll take this chance to get to know him a little better.
I had the pleasure of meeting up with Mark at the International AIDS Conference and he invited me to sit down with him and talk about Positive Frontiers. Mark is witty, bright and extremely entertaining. We chatted while at the MSM Pre-Conference Institute and so it’s fitting that our video chat with me would be titled “Gay Day.”
Mark and his camera were all over the International AIDS Conference and you can check out his informative and comical exploits below.
Mark is able to cover a range of topics and delve into the complexity of things while still finding the humor. His video, “HIV Criminalization Face Off,” was shown at a number of sessions at IAC and deftly captures the complicated nature of disclosure and gay male sexual relationships. It’s recommended viewing for anyone with questions about disclosure and HIV.
There is more to Mark than his videos. He’s also written some very provocative and important pieces about HIV and gay male culture. His article on “Dawson’s 20 Load Weekend,” is timely, hilarious and a rare analysis of how gay porn can impact our lives. I strongly encourage you to give it a read.
In this great big world of HIV there aren’t a lot of people talking openly and honestly about their lives. Mark puts it all out there. He opens up about facial wasting, recovery and bareback porn. We need more HIV-positive people telling their authentic stories. The HIV narrative is diverse, complex and fabulous. Let’s hope that many others will soon share their own experiences of living a fabulous life with HIV.
