Vegas was sinful, but Los Angeles will be amazing. This Labor Day Weekend, Paul Nicholls, Patrick Crough and Jake Resnicow bring Matinee, the world’s biggest gay dance party, to Los Angeles. Just as Matinee Vegas kicked off the summer, this party intends to wrap up the season with a bang. But jaded circuit queens shouldn’t write off Matinee L.A. as a carbon copy of the Sin City iteration. Adam Lambert has signed on to perform at the Matinee Main Event this Saturday Night and Taryn Manning will also debut her new single, "Send Me Your Love." Co-promoter Paul Nicholls tells us more of what differentiates the events.

“Part of what makes Matinee so special is that we always distinctly tailor our parties to each city,” says Nicholls. “We always offer a unique product but make it specific to the city we are in. Vegas had a unique Sin City vibe and L.A. has definitely given us plenty to work with! In a city that has seen it all, we want to offer something truly unique and amazing, and that is exactly what we intend to do! Hence our tagline,  ‘You’ve got to experience amazing!’”

This amazing experience unfurls Friday, Aug 31 with the Supersized ‘Big Opening’ at The Factory in WeHo. The kickoff party features the talents of DJs Nina Flowers, Derek Monteiro, Beau Dasher, Morningstar and is advertised as being ‘powered by Marco Marco.’ Wunderkind Marco Marco (née Morante) is reputable for creating extreme couture for the likes of Fergie, Nikki Minaj and most notably, Katy Perry, who sported the designer’s whipped-cream-shooting-cupcake bra in her “California Gurls” music video. Marco Marco is more than qualified to power this big opening.

“I first teamed up with Marco Morante and his Marco Marco crew to do costuming last year for the Amazing Las Vegas Festival,” says co-promoter  Patrick Crough, speaking for himself and partner Jake Resnicow. “We’ve since worked on five parties together and his over-the-top designs and overall execution are unmatched by anyone in the industry. We have a blast coming up with fun and fresh ideas together and putting on an amazing show. His unique style worked so well for Vegas’ SuperSized party at Rain Nightclub, and now that we are in his home city, I can only imagine what surprises we’ll come up with.”

The rest of the weekend consists of the Matinee Main Event and Action! After Hours at the Festival Complex and the Heat! VIP T-Dance. Amazing Weekend promises 100,000 square feet of party space, which the boys of Matinee view as 100,000 square feet of opportunity to create.

“We have three locations and more than six unique environments. Matinee treats every space like a blank canvass and takes over to create a mind-blowing experience,” Nicholls explains. “Festival Complex on Saturday has been in the works for months and is a rebirth of sorts exclusively for the Matinee Main Event!”

But fancy decor is nothing without a solid beat. Fortunately, Matinee L.A. showcases a cross section of talented DJs, each contributing something unique to the  party.

“I honestly look forward to what each DJ brings to the table,” says Nicholls. “But it is always a treat to hear DJs like Hector Fonseca and Theresa who I don’t get to hear very often. Nina Flowers blew everyone away in Vegas so I can’t wait to see her bring it, and J.Louis is one of the original Matinee All Stars and flying in directly from Ibiza so I can’t wait to hear him. It is also very cool to see some of my L.A. resident DJs really get the opportunity to do their thing powered by such a big weekend!”

With Matinee Vegas, this big weekend bookends the summer. Or does it?

“This is L.A. Does summer ever really end?” Nicholls jokes. “We picked this date because we really like the idea of Matinee Las Vegas kicking off the summer season and Matinee L.A. ending it. Like a perfectly tied ribbon! We are also ending our weekend with Splash Bash, which is a benefit for EQCA who fight all year round for marriage equality.  Seems like a great way to end to us!”
