When it comes to steak, people throughout the Coachella Valley head to LG’s Prime Steakhouse. Known for its 100 percent prime beef and award-winning wine list with over 300 bottles, LG’s has locations in Palm Springs and in La Quinta.
“We are locally owned and nationally known,” says LG’s spokesperson Gloria Goulet. “Our clientele is the same for both the east and west end of the valley, fine wine and steak lovers, people who enjoy high-end dining without the stuffy atmosphere.”
They call themselves LG’s Prime Steakhouse because they specialize in prime beef, dry aged on the premises. In fact, the eight different steaks they offer are all prime, the United States Department of Agriculture’s highest designation for beef.
“Our 100 percent USDA prime beef speaks for itself, as only two percent of all beef is 100 percent prime. We serve it all year long. Others don’t,” says Goulet, explaining that prime steaks have the necessary marbling that imparts a unique combination of taste and texture that creates the ultimate steak-eating experience.
The LG of the name comes from founder Leon Greenberg who retired to the Coachella Valley after selling his insurance agency. Not content with just golfing, he combined his love for entertaining with his never-ending quest for a great steak and opened the first LG’s Prime Steakhouse in 1991. Greenberg’s folksy manner and attention to detail quickly made LG’s a hit.
In addition to steaks, LG’s offers a caesar salad prepared from scratch at the table, complete with homemade croutons and homemade salad dressing (a recipe perfected from years of backyard cookouts). Customers rave about the caesar salad almost as much as they do the steaks.
For those who don’t eat steak, they also have a rack of lamb, pork chop, fish of the day, lobster tail, king crab legs and an oven roasted chicken.
LG’s is popular among gay clientele as well.
“Gay diners are refined when it comes to good taste and fine wine, and good customer service is also appreciated,” says Goulet. “Our gay clientele has helped to grow our customer base through word of mouth. They appreciate a good thing when they get it.”
LG’s Palm Springs has been featured on Greg Osborne’s Gay Getaways as one of the best restaurants in Palm Springs.
“We offer unique, elegant and friendly ambiance, and above all, customer service that is unsurpassed,” says Goulet. “That’s what keeps people coming back.”
LG’s Prime Steakhouse is located at 255 S. Palm Canyon Drive in downtown Palm Springs and 78525 Highway 111 in La Quinta.
