Got hair in places where you don’t want it? Dana Elise can help.
“We can get you to hairless bliss,” says Elise, owner of Dana Elise Solutions in Beverly Hills. “We kill hair for a living.”
Elise is an electrologist. She helps people get rid of unwanted chest, back and facial hair, as well as helping to sculpt people’s hairlines, beard lines and eyebrows by using an electric current to destroy the root of the hair follicle.
“Electrolysis is the only true form of permanent hair removal known,” reports Elise, an L.A. native. “The best thing about electrolysis is that it works on every color hair and on every color of skin.”
Electrolysis, however, is not an instantaneous process. Multiple sessions are often needed to clear the back, chest or face, or sculpt that perfect hairline.
“When you’re doing the electrolysis, out of 100 hairs, 50 are killed, 45-50 regrow,” says Elise, who estimates 10-15 percent of her clients are transgender. “So, repeat sessions are needed to clear an area. If you come in every four weeks, you can conquer a large area in 12 to 18 months.”
Patients will feel a tiny pinch from the current, which takes two quarter-seconds to remove the hair. Doctors can prescribe a numbing cream.
Elise got her start in the business 31 years ago and still loves her work.
“Basically, it all came from making people feel more confident and taking care of themselves, and knowing they’re beautiful to start with,” says Elise, who got her training at the Wilshire School of Electrology. “We do all these wonderful things with skincare and electrolysis to enhance their beauty that’s already there.”
At her Beverly Hills offices, Elise and two others—Gladys Valbuena and Alana Dzurek—handle the electrolysis work while Tracy Poire is the skin care specialist.
In addition to the time investment, electrolysis is also a financial investment. The services cost $100 per hour, $85 for 45 minutes, $75 for 30 minutes and $50 for 15 minutes. For the private areas, its $125 per hour.
“If I’m working on a large area like the chest or back, I’m really honest with people,” she says. “I tell them we’re going to become good friends. This is an investment, but when you’re finished, it will be done.”
