If the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles knows one thing, it’s how to entertain. Whether belting out jaw-dropping performances during annual spring concerts or backing up Seth McFarlane's “I Saw Your Boobs” number during the 2013 Academy Awards, the GMCLA strives to deliver audiences a good time, even when fundraising.
This year on Friday, Oct. 25, Halloweenie, GMCLA’s annual autumn fundraiser—dubbed the “party with a purpose”—returns for its eighth year. The brainchild of chorus members Fred Arens and Jason Duguay, who hosted the very first Halloweenie in their back yard, this costume-mandatory event has upgraded to more visible venues over the years, such as the Henry Fonda Theater, Hollywood Forever Cemetery and The Lot, home to HBO's homoerotic vampire series True Blood.
This year, the fundraiser will be held at DTLA’s ornate Los Angeles Theatre and will feature horror d’oeuvres provided by Rockwell and Crumble Catering, an open bar, killer DJs, photo ops, private cabanas and celebrity guests. Past celeb attendees have included Adam Lambert, Marissa Winokur, Rose McGowan, Neil Patrick Harris and Drew Barrymore. Not surprisingly, Fred and Jason will will be joined by a ‘gHost committee’ that reads like a veritable ‘who’s who’ of the L.A. gay community, from city politicians and event coordinators to business owners and nightlife personalities.
