Erick saunters angrily down the carpeted hall of a Westside apartment building. He takes a breath and knocks calmly on the door numbered “227”.

Anthony, Erick’s former office crush, looks through the peephole and immediately wishes he hadn’t as he slowly opens the door.

What do you mean, ‘you don’t have it?’” Erick says emphatically as he storms into the apartment.

Anthony slowly closes the door and leans against it. “Hey, Erick,” he says nervously.

“Don’t ‘hey’ me. I’m not here because I miss seeing your face everyday at the office,” Erick retorts.

Anthony begins to walk through the living room toward the kitchen. “Can I get you ...

“There’s an irony to us sitting here,” Erick says to Chris at a table in front of the new Hollywood location of the Big Cup Coffee Shop.

“How so?” Chris asks, picking at a muffin.

“Mitch used to work at the Westwood location.”

“That’s right. That’s where the two of you met. But I wouldn’t so much call that ironic as coincidental.

“It’s also where he told me he was moving to New York.”

“And then you followed him.”

Erick shoots Chris a playful ...

Chris’s roommate Ethan’s assistant was on vacation for the week. Since Erick was “technically out of work for all intentive purposes” (as he puts it), Chris suggested Ethan ask Erick to help him out in the office as opposed to hiring a temp.

“Everything’s fine,” Erick reassures Ethan over a Skype call. “Just a couple of phone calls. I emailed you those messages.

Thanks. Has a package from the Friedman case been delivered yet?”

“It has not.”

“Alright, please call me as soon as it arrives.”

“Will do.”

Erick watches as Ethan quickly turns his head to have a side conversation with someone at the courthouse. “Gotta ...

“Are you listening to me?” April asks. “Erick? Erick!”

Since Erick got laid off, he and April have gotten together for lunch and/or happy hour once or twice a week. Today, they graced Basix Café in West Hollywood with their presence and were just finishing up their respective meals.

Erick’s eyes pop open. “Yes. I’m listening.”

“Did you doze off?”

Erick thinks about this for a moment. “I’m not sure. What was the last thing you said?”

“I was telling you about Dana’s going away party tomorrow night.”

“Then yes, I probably dozed off.”

“Are you and Chris going?”

“Are you and Grayson going?”

“I told you we ...

“Don’t you answer that phone,” Erick dictates as he walks into Chris’s bedroom with a tray of chicken soup, crackers and warm ginger ale. “You’re sick.”

It’ll be quick, I promise,” Chris protests as he sits up in his bed.

“Don’t argue with me,Erick says as he places the tray in front of Chris and grabs the phone.

Please? Just this last time. I won’t take any more work calls.”

Erick answers the call. “Good afternoon, this is the answering service of Christopher Russell. He is not available right now, but please attempt to solve the problem yourself and he’ll clean up the mess ...

“We may have crossed a line here,” Chris concludes as he and Eugene watch Erick sitting in a corner, his back toward them and head bowed.

“We? I was just playing along,” Eugene replies.

“You may have just been playing along, but now you’re in it just as deep as I am.”

“How do you figure?”

“Because he’ll blame you, too.”

“Maybe so, but I have an out.”

“Which is?”

“I’m one who might could still be. He’ll want to keep me in his back pocket -- just in case.”

“Good point,” Chris concedes. “I really didn’t think he’d react like this.”

“Did you really think this was going to end well?”

“I don’t know what I was thinking. ...

“How did you find out about this place?” Chris asks as he and Erick walk into the new Weho Bistro on the corner of LaCienaga and Holloway.

“I ran into the owner yesterday on my way to Larrabee’s and he invited me to come out for the opening today. He’s running it with his partner,” Erick explains.

A young man comes up to greet them. “Good afternoon, welcome to the WeHo Bistro. To celebrate our opening, we samples of our wine selection to my right and samples from our menu to our left,” he says with a wide smile.

“Thank you,” Erick replies as the young man walks away.

Chris looks around. “I need to find ...

“How was your first week of unemployment?” John asks Erick over Friday Happy Hour drinks at Larrabee’s in West Hollywood.

Larrabee’s was a tradition that started several months ago between Erick and John, his managing editor up until last week when Erick was laid off. A client had come into town to meet the team working his account. Suspecting Erick was gay, the client asked where they could all go for drinks.

Suspecting that the client was suspecting he was gay and trying to confirm, Erick suggested Larrabee’s. He’d never been there but had been meaning to check it out for some time. Knowing John was gay, the client invited him to join them.

That was a Tuesday. ...

Erick walks into the lobby of the PR and creative marketing firm where Chris works. “Hello, may I help you?” the familiar-looking receptionist asks.

“Good afternoon. Erick Davidson for Chris Russell,” he responds.

“Is he expecting you?” the receptionist asks with a hint of playfulness in his eyes.

“He is not.”

The receptionist picks up the phone and dials into Chris’s office. “Chris, I have your BOYFRIEND in front of me,” he announces.

“Which one?” Chris says through the phone so Erick can hear.

The receptionist giggles and hangs up the phone. “Chris will see you now.”

“Thank you,” Erick replies as he starts to head back to Chris’s office.

Erick, Chris and Eugene walk into the Good Luck Bar in Silver Lake for a comedy show hosted by every month by Erick’s friend Lizard Bradshaw, a stand-up comedienne. As the trio make their way to the back room, she rushes over to Erick and pulls him aside.

“I need your help.”

“Sure. What’s going on?”

“Can you perform tonight?”

“What?”

“Can you perform tonight? I’ve had two comics cancel at the last minute and part of my deal here is that I have to supply at least six.”

“Why me?”

“Because you’re my friend.”

“But I’m not a stand-up comedian.”

“I know. But you can do this. You’re funny.”

“I say things funny. I don’t say funny ...
