Republican vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., talked to Miami station WPTV NewsChannel 5 about his plan for a Medicare voucher system and the one-year anniversary of the repeals of "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell," which he voted against in 2010:

”I talked to a lot of good friends of mine who are combat leaders in the theater and they just didn’t think the timing of this was right to do this in the middle of when our troops are in harm’s way in combat. Now that it’s done, we should not reverse it. I think that would be a step in the wrong direction because people have already disclosed themselves. So I think this issue is past us. It’s done. And, I think we need to move on.”

Ryan had been roundly criticized by LGBT groups for attending the 2012 Values Voters Summit organized by the anti-gay Family Research Council, which furiously fought against repeal and is “praying” for reinstatement. Ryan’s running mate, Mitt Romney, told the Des Moine Register in Dec. 2011 that he while he did not favor repeal during war, he would not favor reinstatement.
