Mike Feuer, longtime LGBT friend in the Assembly and on the L.A. City Council, was hit by a car on Monday night and has been recovering in intensive care. John Shallman, Feuer’s chief strategist for his L.A. City Attorney campaign against incumbent Carmen Trutanich in 2013, released the following statement Tuesday:
Yesterday, while Mr. Feuer was driving his Toyota Prius to Jackie Lacey’s swearing-in ceremony at the Galen Center, he was involved in a car accident with a driver in a Chevy Tahoe who ran a red light. Mr. Feuer was traveling alone when his car was struck on the driver’s side. The impact was so severe that emergency personnel needed the Jaws of Life to pull him out. Mr. Feuer was immediately transported to a hospital and admitted by a trauma team. Once he arrived at the hospital, doctors assessed his condition and determined that he had multiple rib fractures with pulmonary contusion and a spleen laceration. He is currently in stable condition and is recovering in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. His condition is not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full and prompt recovery. While his physicians have not yet determined a specific release date, Mr. Feuer anticipates being released soon. Mike’s wife Gail is with him, and they both wish to express their deepest appreciation and sincere thanks to the first responders and physicians and nurses who have cared for him. Thanks also to his family, friends, constituents and supporters for their concern, prayers and well wishes. He’s looking forward to getting back to work soon.
