President Barack Obama addressed the 3,000 LGBT activists attending this weekend’s National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s 25th Creating Change Conference. He said, in part: “With your help, we will continue the journey to perfect our union. The work will be hard, the road will be long. But I’m more confident than ever that we will reach a better future—as long as Americans like you keep reaching for justice and all of us keep marching together.”
NGLTF Executive Director Rea Carey followed the Obama video with her annual State of the Movement speech in which she said in part: “As we look toward the next 40 years, if we are to succeed, we must stand up. We must be a movement that is about possibility over privilege; expanding over narrowing; unity over separation; creating change over settling for what is. We are family and we will not leave any of you behind!”
