Drive This, Not That: 2013 Scion iQ vs 2013 Smart ForTwo

Winner: 2013 Scion iQ

Scion’s stubby iQ is slow and tiny, but it’s not as slow or as tiny as the Smart ForTwo. But that’s not the only reason the iQ is the, uh, smarter choice here.

While the ForTwo is literally for two, as in passengers, the Scion is for two more, with a vestigial rear seat with two seat belts (but not much room for occupants). Fold the rear seat in the Scion and you do get a decent shelf for cargo, however.

In addition to being more spacious, the iQ’s interior looks more dignified than the cartoonish ForTwo cabin. And with the iQ’s four-cylinder engine in the front, the iQ has (slightly) more normal dynamics compared to the twitchy Smart, with its wimpy, rear-mounted three-cylinder plunked in the back.

While there is $3K difference in base pricing, truly smart money will land you in an iQ.
