Jem is Still Truly Outrageous!

For an entire generation, the cartoon Jem and the Holograms was an initial exposure to drag queens. Is that to say that Jerrica Benton and crew were literally sporting wood under those miniskirts? Of course not. Any true child of the '80s knows the pelvis of Jem's action figure is as asexual as Michele Bachmann's marriage. But Jem deftly touched upon the tranny aesthetic—fearless fashion, neon hair, synth-pop music numbers. The expletive "outrageous!" can effortlessly replace "werrrk!" Hell, the Holograms' rivals The Misfits were so catty, they might as well be portrayed by the likes of Willam Belli and Detox Icunt.  Read more...

Skinny Dipping in the Mainstream

Out comedian Stephen Guarino was a big fish in a small, gay pond. The Florida native carved a solid niche on LOGO's Big Gay Sketch Show with his flamboyant charm and frenetic energy. Outfest awarded him Best Actor of 2010 for his work in BearCity. This year, Guarino successfully plunged into mainstream television with his turn as the high maintenance Derek on ABC's Happy Endings. Stephen recently met up with Frontiers to gab about the transition into primetime, his history with Wayne Brady and constantly being "two steps behind Drew Droege."    Read more...

Jersey Shoresical

At heart, Daniel Franzese is a big ol' goomba. The gay icon, known quintessentially for his breakout role as the tart-tongued Damian in the queer classic Mean Girls, is still deeply rooted in a palpably East Coast sensibility. The Brooklyn native's career is characterized by unflinching film work (Bully, I Spit On Your Grave), irreverent comedy (Party Down, Comeback), fearless stage craft (Dog Sees God) and a strong presence in the L.A. art scene (Crusaders and Haters). This August, a noticeably svelter Franzese returns to his Manhattan stomping grounds in the NY Fringe Festival with his new comedy, Jersey Shoresical: A Frickin' Rock Opera,  but not before treating L.A. audiences to a limited run at the Bootleg Theatre. The funny fungool takes a break from his music rehearsals in Hollywood's historic Chateau de Fleurs to sit with Frontiers contributor and fellow Shoresical castmate Mike Ciriaco to discuss the production, Fringe Fest and his addiction to reality TV. DJ Pornstar is exactly what his name promises. For over a decade, he's developed a twin career in both the adult film and music industries. His steamy scenes have garnered several awards, while his sounds earned him a residency at the Abbey and a spot in Tom Whitman's upcoming Elevation Gay Ski Weekend. The sexy spinner recently sat down with Frontiers to discuss his music, the plight of nightlife and the perils of barebacking. Read more...

My Brother Husband's Keeper

Michael Serrato doesn't see the world through rose-colored glasses. Oh no, honey. He sees it through fuchsia-lensed rhinestone bedazzled cat's-eye frames. Every aspect of this out comedian's oeuvre is unapologetically gay. As a founding cast member of LOGO's Big Gay Sketch Show, Serrato crafted countless queer characters. Most notable from his stable are Heaven, a brash tranny prostitute, and a spot-on impersonation of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. Read more...

Gay, Gorgeous and Global

Mike Warner is the embodiment of the ideal gay dichotomy. By day he's a successful finance wizard fluent in four languages, but at night he's better known as Go-Go Mike, a muscled mainstay of international gay nightlife. Both aspects of Warner's personality are incorporated into his newest project, G3 Bachelors, the world's first global LGBT professional network. Currently housed under the auspices of Facebook, the social group allows successful gay industry leaders to interact both professionally and personally. Recently, the Manhattan-based Warner teleconferenced with his former New York nightlife compatriot and current Frontiers contributor, Mike Ciriaco, to discuss G3, its upcoming website and GoGo's infamous party pics. Big Pimpin', But Not in NYC

Jonny McGovern is huge. Not just becasue the comedian—best known for his Gay Pimp persona—towers at 6’5”. Every aspect of McGovern is larger than life, from his hypermagnetic charisma to his booming, bass-heavy voice and over the top Big Gay Sketch Show characters. A pillar of the New York gay nightlife community, he achieved international recognition in the late ‘90s with his titulating “Soccer Practice” music video, an impressive feat considering it predated the advent of YouTube. Earlier this year, Jonny hopped coasts and resettled in Los Angeles, where the ambitious juggernaut is currently tackling a bevy of new projects. The Gay Pimp sits down with former Boy Gone Wild Mike Ciriaco to riff on the newest incarnation of his podcast, crazy characters and, of course, Golden Girls. Read more...

Ian Ziering Has a Body by Chippendales (And You Can, Too)

Move over, Steve Sanders. Ian Ziering is officially sexier today—at 50 years old, no less—than he was in the ‘90s. Last year, the Beverly Hills 90210 alum metamorphosed his physique when he joined the Chippendales show at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as the production’s guest host. As of this month, Ziering is back in the all-male revue with a body that’s fitter than ever.

Of course, fans of camp-tastic sci-fi films will also know Ziering from his Twitter-trending work in the made-for-TV instant cult classic Sharknado, the sequel for which is on its way to viewers. But to get a glimpse of Ziering’s statuesque bod, you’ll have to travel to Vegas for the real thing. The actor’s chiseled torso will be disappointingly absent from Sharknado 2.
